Eastern Steel, a subsidiary of the Jianlong Group, in Malaysia hired Danieli to provide a cutting-edge slab caster so that it could offer the nation with high-quality goods that are now imported.
Slab caster #2 will really work with a variety of steel grades, including low-carbon grades for automotive applications, API for pipelines, high-strength/low-alloy steel, and weather-resistant grades.
The new vertical-curved caster with a radius of 9 meters and a metallurgical length of 37 meters is now being designed. It will be erected in Chukai, Terengganu, West Malaysia. It can produce 1.6 million tons of slabs per year at casting rates of up to 2.5 m/min for slabs 200 mm thick and with widths between 700 and 1,300 mm.
A cutting-edge process control system from Danieli Automation, iterating with the Danieli 3Q technical package suite, which includes Q-Map, Q-Width, Q-LevelPlus, Q-Cool, Q-Core, and Q-Pulse, will enable the manufacturing of such a diverse variety of slabs.
To achieve the ideal surface and sub-surface slab quality required by final applications, the mold will additionally be fitted with a Danieli Rotelec Multi-Mode Electromagnetic Stirrer MM-EMS®.
By early 2023, the new slab caster is expected to begin operations.
