The Philippine government has eliminated import duties on tin mill black plate (TMBP) from all sources for three years, aiming to reduce production costs for local food processors and strengthen supply chains.

The tariff cut — from 3% to zero — follows recommendations from the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and the Tariff Commission, which found that the measure would improve competitiveness and enhance consumer affordability.

Tin mill black plate is a crucial raw material for tin-plated steel, widely used in canned food packaging.
The Office of the President emphasized that ensuring an affordable and stable supply of TMBP is vital to food security and industrial recovery, particularly amid global steel market volatility.
