US steel exports recorded a slight decline in May 2026, reflecting softer overseas shipments despite continued demand from key export markets.

According to the latest trade data, US steel exports totaled 734,977 metric tons in May, down 0.6% from 739,333 metric tons in April. Compared with May 2025, exports increased 6.8%, indicating that overseas shipments remained above last year's level.

Canada remained the largest destination for US steel exports, followed by Mexico, with both markets continuing to account for the majority of total shipments. Other key export destinations included countries in Europe and Asia, although volumes were significantly lower.

While exports eased slightly on a monthly basis, the overall performance suggests that US steelmakers continue to benefit from relatively stable demand across North American markets.
