Norwegian decarbonized steel developer Blastr Green Steel has announced that it has inked a partnership deal with Belgium-based Lhoist for the development of a scalable decarbonized value chain for ultra-low carbon steel production, and for the evaluation of the supply of limestone and dolomitic limestone for its future ultra-low carbon steel plant in Inkoo, Finland. Limestone and dolomitic limestone are considered to be essential raw materials for steel production.

As part of the partnership, both companies aim to ink a supply deal for the supply of the abovementioned raw materials, which depends on Blastr's final investment decision on the steel plant. Additionally, Lhoist will provide technical support to Blastr Green Steel for selecting limestone and dolomitic limestone products and using them in steel production. Also, the Belgian company will assess developing an investment project under which a supply terminal to Blastr's steel plant would be built.

In the meantime, the statement indicates that the possible use of Lhoist's low-carbon limestone and dolomitic limestones under the LEVELIGREEN® brand could help the Norwegian steelmaker to reduce its carbon emissions by as much as 50 kg per metric ton of steel.

Blastr's ultra-low carbon steel plant will have an annual production capacity of 2.5 million mt.e
