Vietnam’s Steel Imports Edge Down in November, Scrap Shipments Drop Sharply

Vietnam imported 1.52 million mt of steel in November 2025, down 0.4% from October, according to the General Department of Customs. Scrap imports fell much more sharply — down 23.8% year on year to 429,802 mt.

Key scrap suppliers in November included:

  • Japan: 221,842 mt (-12.5%)

  • US: 41,712 mt (-1.5%)

  • Australia: 27,008 mt (-9.6%)

For January–November, the US (+50.3%) and Japan (+32.5%) saw strong growth in scrap shipments to Vietnam.

Main steel suppliers in November were:

  • China: 870,786 mt (-0.6%)

  • Japan: 165,077 mt (-25.2%)

  • South Korea: 190,941 mt (+6.3%)

  • Indonesia: 153,744 mt (+51.2%)

China remained the dominant source in the year-to-date period, supplying 8.36 million mt, though this was 24.2% lower than last year.
