Vietnam’s steel imports recorded a sharp monthly increase in March 2026, according to newly released customs data.
The country imported 1.24 million metric tons of steel in March, representing a 44.9% increase compared to February.
Meanwhile, Vietnam’s scrap imports reached 556,702 metric tons, rising 28.5% month on month.
For the first quarter of 2026:
- Steel imports totaled 3.62 million metric tons, down 2.9% year on year
- Scrap imports reached 1.49 million metric tons, up 8% year on year
The figures suggest improving industrial activity and stronger raw material demand heading into the second quarter.
