Aluminium and stainless steel are two renewable energy sources with high raw material needs. However, this is also a significant stimulus for the metal sector.

After all, 1 megawatt of renewable energy costs 15 times as much as a conventionally generated plant in raw materials like steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. With up to 200 tonnes per megawatt, the European photovoltaic sector alone might require at least 6 million tonnes of ferrous and non-ferrous raw materials in 2022, assuming at least 30 GW of additional capacity. Up to 4 million tonnes of aluminum, stainless steel, steel, and copper will be required for the more than 18 GW of anticipated wind energy.
