Brazil's HDG Exports and Imports Record Sharp Declines in May

Brazil's trade activity for hot-dip galvanized (HDG) steel products weakened significantly in May 2026, with both exports and imports posting substantial declines compared to the previous month.

HDG exports totaled 5,800 metric tons in May, falling 39% from approximately 9,500 metric tons recorded in April. Export revenue also declined, reflecting lower shipment volumes.

On the import side, Brazil imported approximately 13,600 metric tons of HDG products during May, down 37% from around 21,700 metric tons in April.

The slowdown in both exports and imports suggests weaker trading activity in the Brazilian coated steel market, amid changing demand conditions and ongoing adjustments in international steel trade flows.

Despite the monthly declines, market participants continue to monitor domestic demand and global pricing trends, which will likely influence Brazil's coated steel trade performance in the coming months.
