Brazil’s foreign trade authority GECEX has approved definitive antidumping duties on imports of pre-painted steel products from China and India, with the measures set to remain in force for up to five years.

While the final antidumping margins are expected to be announced shortly, a technical report indicates proposed duties of $210.85 per metric ton for Indian-origin products, and between $252.53 and $329.77 per metric ton for Chinese imports.

In a parallel move, GECEX also approved an increase in import tariffs to 25% for a 12-month period, up from 10.8–12.6%, covering products including hot rolled coil (HRC), cold rolled coil (CRC), flat stainless steel, and wire rod.

Industry sources noted that the antidumping measures on pre-painted steel are expected to benefit domestic producer CSN, while the broader tariff increases are likely to support Brazilian steelmakers overall, reflecting long-standing industry demands.

GECEX is scheduled to hold a meeting on February 12 to further discuss CRC and hot-dipped galvanized (HDG) products.
