European energy-intensive industries have called on the European Commission to prioritize lower electricity prices in the upcoming EU Electrification Action Plan (EAP).

In a joint position paper, industry groups representing sectors such as steel, chemicals, cement, metals and paper warned that persistently high electricity costs are threatening industrial competitiveness and slowing decarbonization investments.

Organizations including EUROFER and European Metals stressed that competitive electricity prices are essential to maintain Europe’s industrial base while advancing climate neutrality goals.

The groups also recommended accelerating industrial electrification investments, expanding cross-border electricity interconnections and strengthening the EU Single Market for Energy.

Industry stakeholders cautioned that Europe risks losing global competitiveness if power prices remain structurally higher than in other major industrial regions.
