Two South Korea-based companies, MR Infra Auto and TRIS Tubes, have announced a joint investment of $50 million in the state of Zacatecas, located in the north-central region of the country, as reported by the state government.
Governor David Monreal Ávila shared that a partnership has been established with MR Infra Auto, a prominent Korean automotive firm, resulting in a substantial investment of $30 million. The governor conveyed this information through a post on his personal X (previously known as Twitter) account. While the commencement date for operations remains unspecified, Governor Ávila affirmed that MR Infra Auto's investment would create 400 employment opportunities.
Furthermore, during an official press release, it was unveiled that Governor Ávila, during his productive visit to South Korea, successfully inked an agreement with TRIS Tubes. This agreement paves the way for TRIS Tubes, a distinguished manufacturer of seamless steel pipes catering to industries such as oil, gas, hydrogen, aerospace, and equipment, to invest approximately $20 million in Zacatecas.
MR Infra Auto specializes in producing a variety of automotive components including transmission parts, seat parts, and door parts, supplying global giants like Ford, Hyundai, Kia, and Volkswagen.
Zacatecas, despite not appearing in the top 15 list of auto parts producing entities in Mexico, stands as the eleventh largest contributor (0.97 percent) to the country's overall GDP. In terms of auto parts production value in the initial five months of the year, Coahuila led the pack with approximately $7.6 billion, while Mexico City secured the fifteenth position with a production value of $380 million, as per data from the National Auto Parts Industry (INA, business chamber).
Reports from reputable automotive news sources indicate that the last significant automotive investment in Zacatecas dates back to 2016.
