South Africa has moved to protect its domestic steel industry by imposing definitive antidumping duties on flat rolled steel imports from China, Japan, and Taiwan.

The country’s trade authority concluded that dumped imports caused material injury to local producers, including price suppression, declining output, and reduced profitability.

Final duties have been set at:

  • 6.99%–47.93% for Chinese exporters
  • 44.95% for Japan’s Nippon Steel and 57.23% for other Japanese producers
  • 24.20% for Taiwanese exporters

The decision follows an investigation launched in September 2024 and reflects growing global efforts to counter unfair steel trade practices.
