US President Donald Trump has begun enforcing a temporary 10% tariff on all imported goods, effective February 24, following a ruling by the US Supreme Court that invalidated his earlier tariff measures imposed under emergency powers.

According to media reports, the new tariff is being implemented under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, which allows the president to apply temporary import surcharges for up to 150 days without Congressional approval. The measure replaces broader reciprocal tariffs previously struck down by the court as exceeding presidential authority.

Although President Trump had indicated plans to raise the rate to 15%, the initial tariff has been capped at 10% amid legal and diplomatic concerns. The administration continues to assess alternative legal pathways to extend or adjust the policy beyond the 150-day window.

Global businesses and governments are closely monitoring developments, as the tariff could reshape trade flows and supply chains through 2026 if extended.
